I am Joke Eikenaar. I grew up in a small town in the Veluwe (The Netherlands), a place where children could still climb trees and built forts. Even as a child, I had a vivid imagination: I made my own toys, and I wrote and illustrated my own stories.
That inner child never really grew up, so a career as a bank clerk didn’t particularly suit me. The big change happened in 1999, when I was asked to create the illustrations for a collection of school books. This was what I wanted: this was my passion.
After more than ten years of working as an illustrator for various publishing houses, I decided to take up my own ideas and my own stories: now, I’m not only illustrating, but I’m also writing again.
